Try again to get an error message printed when a daemon fails to successfully report back to mpirun. In this case, there is no guaranteed way for the daemon to output the error report itself - we don't have a connection back to the HNP, and we have tied stderr off to /dev/null (for good reasons). So the HNP has to detect the failure itself and report it.

plm_slurm_module.c

Ensure that mpirun correctly selects the HNP ess component without attempting to init the PMI subsystem as mpirun won't be supported anyway, so let's avoid the error message. Also, daemons launched by the plm/slurm component must use the ess/slurm module as we cannot trust the Slurm PMI_Init functions to correctly tell us when PMI support is available.
