e56ee1e06a Remove the remaining cruft from dual oob transport
* When we moved to allowing dual rml/oob transports, we added a bunch of
stuff that is no longer needed. Remove it so as to simplify the

125d236173 Move from the use of regex to compression
We've been fighting the battle of trying to create a regex generator and
parser that can handle arbitrary hostname schemes - without long-term
success. The worst of it is that there is no way of checking to see if
the computed regex is correct short of parsing it and doing a
character-by-character comparison with the original string. Ugh...there
has to be a better solution.

One option is to investigate using 3rd-party regex libraries as
those are coming from communities whose sole focus is resolving that
problem. However, someone would need to spend the time to investigate
it, and we'd have to find a license-friendly implementation.

Another option is to quit beating our heads against the wall and just
compress the information. It won't be as much of a reduction, but we
also won't keep hitting scenarios where things break. In this case, it
seems that "perfection" is definitely the enemy of "good enough".

This PR implements the compression option while retaining the
possibility of people adding regex-generating components. The
compression code used in ORTE is consolidated into the opal/compress
framework. That framework currently held bzip and gzip components for
use in compressing checkpoint files - since we no longer support C/R, I
have .opal_ignore'd those components.

However, I have left the original framework APIs alone in case someone
ever decides to redo C/R. The APIs of interest here are added to the
framework - specifically, the "compress_block" and "decompress_block"
functions. I then moved the ORTE zlib compression code into a new
component in this framework.

Unfortunately, the framework currently is a single-select one - i.e.,
only one active component at a time. Since I .opal_ignore'd the other
two and made the priority of zlib high, this isn't a problem. However,
if someone wants to re-enable bzip/gzip or add another component, they
might need to transition opal/compress to a multi-select framework.

Included changes:

* Consolidate the compression code into the opal/compress framework

* Move the ORTE zlib compression code into a new opal/compress/zlib
  component

* Ignore the bzip and gzip components in opal/compress framework

* Add a "compress_base_limit" MCA param to set the threshold above which
  we compress data - defaults to 4096 bytes

* Delete stale brucks and rcd components from orte/grpcomm framework

* Delete the orte/regx framework

* Update the launch system to use opal/compress instead of string regex

* Provide a default module if no zlib is available

* Fix some misc multi-node issues

* Properly generate the nidmap in response to a "connection warmup"
  message so the remote daemon knows the children it needs to launch.

* Remove stale references to orte_node_regex

* opal_byte_object_t's are not OPAL objects - properly release allocated
  memory.

* Set the topology

* Currently only handling homogeneous case

* Update the compress framework files to conform

* Consolidate open/close into one "frame" file. Ensure we open/close the
  framework

cb221b6f6f Correct mapping errors
Since we now support the dynamic addition of hosts to the orte_node_pool, there is no longer any reason to require advanced specification of all possible nodes. Instead, use a precedence method to initially allocate only those hosts that were specified in the cmd line:

* rankfile, if given, as that will specify the nodes

* -host, aggregated across all app_contexts

* -hostfile, aggregated across all app_contexts

* default hostfile

* assign local node

Fix slots_inuse accounting so that the nodes are correctly reset upon error termination - e.g., when oversubscribed without permission.

Ensure we accurately track the user's specified desires for oversubscribe and no-use-local when dynamically spawning jobs.

8f496b01b7 Try automatically adding local spawn threads to parallelize the fork/exec process to speed up the launch on large SMPs. Harvest the threads after initial spawn to minimize any impact on running jobs.
Change the determination of #spawn threads to be done on basis of #local procs in first job being spawned. Someone can look at an optimization that handles subsequent dynamic spawns that might be larger in size.

Leave the threads running, but blocked, for the life of the daemon, and use them to harvest the local procs as they terminate. This helps short-lived jobs in particular.

Add MCA params to set:
  * max number of spawn threads (default: 4)
  * set a specific number of spawn threads (default: -1, indicating no set number)
  * cutoff - minimum number of local procs before using spawn threads (default: 32)

e1d079544b mca: Dynamic components link against project lib
* Resolves #3705
 * Components should link against the project level library to better
   support `dlopen` with `RTLD_LOCAL`.
 * Extend the `mca_FRAMEWORK_COMPONENT_la_LIBADD` in the `Makefile.am`
   with the appropriate project level library:
```
MCA components in ompi/
MCA components in orte/
```

Note: The changes in this commit were automated by the script in
the commit that proceeds it with the `libadd_mca_comp_update.py`

Passed the below set of symbols into a script that added ompi_ to them all.

Note that if processing a symbol named "foo" the script turns

but doesn't turn

But beyond that the script is blind to C syntax, so it hits strings and

919d7fcf49 We cannot use OFI to determine when daemons can finalize as we don't see the "sockets" go away. So always use the OOB for the mgmt conduit - this provides the necessary termination signal AND ensures that IOF and other mgmt messages go solely across TCP.

Still not completely done as we need a better way of tracking the routed module being used down in the OOB - e.g., when a peer drops connection, we want to remove that route from all conduits that (a) use the OOB and (b) are routed, but we don't want to remove it from an OFI conduit.

06c3dfc052 Refactor the ORTE DVM code so that external codes can submit multiple jobs using only a single connection to the HNP.
* Clean up the DVM so it continues to run even when applications error out and we would ordinarily abort the daemons.
* Create a new errmgr component for the DVM to handle the differences.
* Cleanup the DVM state component.
* Add ORTE bindings directory and brief README
* Pass a local tool index around to match jobs.
* Pass the jobid on job completion.
* Fix initialization logic.
* Add framework for python wrapper.
* Fix terminate-with-non-zero-exit behavior so it properly terminates only the indicated procs, notifies orte-submit, and orte-dvm continues executing.
* Add some missing options to orte-dvm
* Fix a bug in -host processing that caused us to ignore the #slots designator. Add a new attribute to indicate "do not expand the DVM" when submitting job spawn requests.
* It actually makes no sense that we treat the termination of all children differently than terminating the children of a specific job - it only creates confusion over the difference in behavior. So terminate children the same way regardless.

Extend the cmd_line utility to easily allow layering of command line definitions

Catch up with ORTE interface change and make build more generic.

Disable "fixed dvm" logic for now.

Add another cmd_line function to merge a table of cmd line options with another one, reporting as errors any duplicate entries. Use this to allow orterun to reuse the orted_submit code

Fix the "fixed_dvm" logic by ensuring we reset num_new_daemons to zero. Also ensure that the nidmap is sent with the first job so the downstream daemons get the node info. Remove a duplicate cmd line entry in orterun.

Revise the DVM startup procedure to pass the nidmap only once, at the startup of the DVM. This reduces the overhead on each job launch and ensures that the nidmap doesn't get overwritten.

Add new commands to get_orted_comm_cmd_str().

Move ORTE command line options to orte_globals.[ch].

Catch up with extra orte_submit_init parameter.

Add example code.

Add documentation.

Bump version.

The nidmap and routing data must be updated prior to propagating the xcast or else the xcast will fail.

Fix the return code so it is something more expected when an error occurs. Ensure we get an error returned to us when we fail to launch for some reason. In this case, we will always get a launch_cb as we did indeed attempt to spawn it. The error code will be returned in the complete_cb.

Fix the return code from orte_submit_job - it was returning the tracker index instead of "success". Take advantage of ORTE's pretty-print capabilities to provide a nice error output explaining why we failed to launch. Ensure we always get a launch_cb when we fail to launch, but no complete_cb as the job never launched.

Extend the error reporting capability to job completion as well.

Add index parameter to orte_submit_job().

Add orte_job_cancel and implement ORTE_DAEMON_TERMINATE_JOB_CMD.

Factor out dvm termination.

Parse the terminate option at tool level.

Add error string for ORTE_ERR_JOB_CANCELLED.

Add some safeguards.

Cleanup and/of comments.

Enable the return.

Properly ORTE_DECLSPEC orte_submit_halt.

Add orte_submit_halt and orte_submit_cancel to interface.

b68d66bb9b MCA: Add the project/project version to the MCA base component
This commit adds support for project_framework_component_* parameter
matching. This is the first step in allowing the same framework name
in multiple projects. This change also bumps the MCA component version
to 2.1.0.

All master frameworks have been updated to use the new component
versioning macro. An mca.h has been added to each project to add a
project specific versioning macro of the form
PROJECT_MCA_VERSION_2_1_0.
