c954f457d9 mca/base: update the way dynamic components are handled
This commit is a rework of the component repository. The changes
included in this commit are:

 - Remove the component dependency code based off .ompi_info
files. This code is legacy code dating back 10 years that and is no
   longer used.

 - Move the plugin scanning code to the component repository. New
calls have been added to add new scanning paths, query available
   components, and dlopen/load components.

 - Pass the framework down to mca_base_component_find/filter. Eventually
the framework structure will be used to further validate components
   before they are used.

 - Add support to the MCA framework system to disable scanning for
dlopened components on open (support already existed in
register). This is really only relevant to installdirs as it has no
register function and no DSO components.

4ca07ae125 re-introduce distill_checkpoint_ready
In the OPAL_ENABLE_FT_CR code path there used to be a variable
'mca_base_component_distill_checkpoint_ready' which got removed.
The FT code was not compiling and while trying to get it to compile
again the old variable was #ifdef'd out. This re-introduces the
variable with a new name 'opal_base_distill_checkpoint_ready'
and enables the code previously #ifdef'd out.

This removes the last hack introduced to get the FT code to compile
again.

b42aad44a3 Trying to get the C/R code to compile again. This patch
includes various fixes all over the C/R code which are
hard to group like the other patches.

Changes from V1:
* explain why mca_base_component_distill_checkpoint_ready no longer works
* compare return result of opal functions with OPAL_* values

Changes from V2:
* use orte_rml_oob_ft_event() instead of referencing through the modules
* properly protect variable (thanks to --enable-picky)

020b9991a4 Introduce the MCA framework system. This formalizes the interface frameworks must provide.
Other changes:
 - Added a flag to the MCA variable system to indicate a variable should go away
when its group does. Both mca_base_framework_var_register() and
   mca_base_component_var_register() set this flag.

Notes:
 - mca_base_components_open is deprecated. It will be removed in a future commit.
 - All frameworks should use MCA_BASE_FRAMEWORK_DECLARE to declare their
   framework structure.
 - All calls to framework open/close functions should be changed to use the
   mca_base_framework_* functions.
 - Instead of special-casing installdirs a flag was added to prevent calling
into the variable system when opening a framework.
 - Ralph: Clarify the functional definition of the "register" function in the
MCA framework object - it had the same name as another function that does a
   totally different thing.
 - As per discussion with Ralph the behavior of mca_base_framework_register()
is to always call mca_base_framework_components_register() if the framework's
register function was successful. This removed the need for frameworks to
have to call this function directly.

cf377db823 MCA/base: Add new MCA variable system
Features:
 - Support for an override parameter file (openmpi-mca-param-override.conf).
Variable values in this file can not be overridden by any file or environment
   value.
 - Support for boolean, unsigned, and unsigned long long variables.
 - Support for true/false values.
 - Support for enumerations on integer variables.
 - Support for MPIT scope, verbosity, and binding.
 - Support for command line source.
 - Support for setting variable source via the environment using
   OMPI_MCA_SOURCE_<var name>=source (either command or file:filename)
 - Cleaner API.
 - Support for variable groups (equivalent to MPIT categories).

Notes:
 - Variables must be created with a backing store (char **, int *, or bool *)
that must live at least as long as the variable.
 - Creating a variable with the MCA_BASE_VAR_FLAG_SETTABLE enables the use of
   mca_base_var_set_value() to change the value.
 - String values are duplicated when the variable is registered. It is up to
the caller to free the original value if necessary. The new value will be
freed by the mca_base_var system and must not be freed by the user.
 - Variables with constant scope may not be settable.
 - Variable groups (and all associated variables) are deregistered when the
component is closed or the component repository item is freed. This
prevents a segmentation fault from accessing a variable after its component
   is unloaded.
 - After some discussion we decided we should remove the automatic registration
of component priority variables. Few component actually made use of this
   feature.
 - The enumerator interface was updated to be general enough to handle
   future uses of the interface.
 - The code to generate ompi_info output has been moved into the MCA variable
   system. See mca_base_var_dump().

fb2e543a57 Refs trac:3275.
We ran into a case where the OMPI SVN trunk grew a new acceptable MCA
parameter value, but this new value was not accepted on the v1.6
branch (hwloc_base_mem_bind_failure_action -- on the trunk it accepts
the value "silent", but on the older v1.6 branch, it doesn't). If you
set "hwloc_base_mem_bind_failure_action=silent" in the default MCA
params file and then accidentally ran with the v1.6 branch, every OMPI
executable (including ompi_info) just failed because hwloc_base_open()
would say "hey, 'silent' is not a valid value for
hwloc_base_mem_bind_failure_action!". Kaboom.

The only problem is that it didn't give you any indication of where
this value was being set. Quite maddening, from a user perspective.

So we changed the ompi_info handles this case. If any framework open
function return OMPI_ERR_BAD_PARAM (either because its base MCA params
got a bad value or because one of its component register/open
functions return OMPI_ERR_BAD_PARAM), ompi_info will stop, print out
a warning that it received and error, and then dump out the parameters
that it has received so far in the framework that had a problem.

At a minimum, this will show the user the MCA param that had an error
(it's usually the last one), and ''where it was set from'' (so that
they can go fix it).

We updated ompi_info to check for O???_ERR_BAD_PARAM from each from
the framework opens. Also updated the doxygen docs in mca.h for this
O???_BAD_PARAM behavior. And we noticed that mca.h had MCA_SUCCESS
and MCA_ERR_??? codes. Why? I think we used them in exactly one
place in the code base (mca_base_components_open.c). So we deleted
those and just used the normal OPAL_* codes instead.

While we were doing this, we also cleaned up a little memory
management during ompi_info/orte-info/opal-info finalization.
Valgrind still reports a truckload of memory still in use at ompi_info
termination, but they mostly look to be components not freeing
memory/resources properly (and outside the scope of this fix).

c63c4d6892 Fix bugs where (OMPI_ERROR == *) checks cannot be converted to (OMPI_SUCCESS != *) since the return codes are overloaded to return an "index" on success.
The fix is to just check if the return value is positive or not, since all the SOS encoded errors are *always* negative.

The real fix (as Ralph points out) is to change these functions (opal_pointer_array_add and mca_base_param*) to return the index as a pointer.

afbe3e99c6 * Wrap all the direct error-code checks of the form (OMPI_ERR_* == ret) with
(OMPI_ERR_* = OPAL_SOS_GET_ERR_CODE(ret)), since the return value could be a
SOS-encoded error. The OPAL_SOS_GET_ERR_CODE() takes in a SOS error and returns
 back the native error code.

* Since OPAL_SUCCESS is preserved by SOS, also change all calls of the form
(OPAL_ERROR == ret) to (OPAL_SUCCESS != ret). We thus avoid having to
decode 'ret' to get the native error code.

a003fa7a50 C/R fix for broken CRS component selection resulting from r18707.
Make sure that if we ask for the 'none' component (which is not a 'real' component, but a component in crs/base) then we do not fail out of the box when using tools. We check for the {{{OPAL_ERR_NOT_FOUND}}} error.

Also make sure that component_open() returns {{{OPAL_ERR_NOT_FOUND}}} when it cannot find a value instead of {{{OPAL_ERROR}}} which means something quite a bit different.

C/R is working but the tools still print the warning below everytime they are ran:
{{{
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
A requested component was not found, or was unable to be opened. This
means that this component is either not installed or is unable to be
used on your system (e.g., sometimes this means that shared libraries
that the component requires are unable to be found/loaded). Note that
Open MPI stopped checking at the first component that it did not find.

Host: odin.cs.indiana.edu
Framework: crs
Component: none
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
}}}

I'll have to figure out a work around for this warning (maybe work on the {{{MCA_NULL}}} Ticket #1291).

95c31388e1 It was observed that the component constraint logic is currently only used
by the checkpoint/restart feature. Other constraints could be enforced here,
but at the moment it is only the checkpointable constraint.

So this commit just removes this logic from non-c/r builds. If someone
wanted to add a new constraint in the future then there is a comment in
the code that directs them a bit.

59dc6b95f3 Modifications in the way user-specified modules are loaded. Once we get the list of filenames from the libtool, we add the statically defined ones and then based on the include/exclude string we only keep the ones requested by the user. If no include/exclude was provided, we keep [as expected] everything. Once we have the list of whatever is requested we open them. Therefore, as an example, if the user specify "--mca pml ob1" we will never try to load/open/init DR nor CM.
There are several interesting things:
1. less NFS traffic [as we potentially access less files]
2. faster loading time [in case the user tune it's execution environment]
3. (1) + (2) -> faster startup time [at least everything which do not depend on the network]
4. MX bug will go away if the pml is specified.
5. No useless BTL will be opened, which will solve few others issues.

5ffd95e971 Commit of the unified component selection system. This was mostly
in-place already (turns out that I was wrong in thinking that it
didn't work for static components), but the logic for excluding
components was not there. This commit does a few things:

- Adds "exclude" logic, so that you can do:

  mpirun --mca btl ^mvapi,openib ...

(note the "^" character -- I tried "!" but then you have to escape
it in the shell, and that was icky) which will exclude both the
mvapi and openib btl components (excluding one component means that
you are excluding all components in the list; it doesn't make sense
to include some and exclude others -- you're entire entirely
  including or entirely excluding)

- Simplifies the "include" logic, so the same old stuff like this
  still works:

  mpirun --mca btl tcp,self ...

will only use the tcp and self btl components.

- Added more verbosity statements to make this selection process
  clear.
