http://www.open-mpi.org/community/lists/users/2013/04/21689.php, the
assert in opal_datatype_is_contiguous_memory_layout() is not always
correct -- he supplied a test case where it was not valid,
essentially:
1. Call MPI_Type_create_indexed_block(0, ..., &newtype) and commit newtype
1. Call MPI_Type_create_resized(newtype, 0, nonzero_value, &resized) and commit resized
1. Call MPI_File_set_view with resized
This will eventually call opal_datatype_is_contiguous_memory_layout(),
and the assert will fail. After some consultation with George, it was
determined that the assert() is basically good, but it needs to also
check for (count != 0).

representation is not correctly optimized (it is off by the extend).
During the data representation process, if the opportunity to merge several
items appear, we replace them with the new merged element. However, if one
of the components of this merged element was comming from a "loop representation"
then the new first element of this loop must have a displacement moved by the
extent of the loop.

Features:
- Support for an override parameter file (openmpi-mca-param-override.conf).
Variable values in this file can not be overridden by any file or environment
value.
- Support for boolean, unsigned, and unsigned long long variables.
- Support for true/false values.
- Support for enumerations on integer variables.
- Support for MPIT scope, verbosity, and binding.
- Support for command line source.
- Support for setting variable source via the environment using
OMPI_MCA_SOURCE_<var name>=source (either command or file:filename)
- Cleaner API.
- Support for variable groups (equivalent to MPIT categories).
Notes:
- Variables must be created with a backing store (char **, int *, or bool *)
that must live at least as long as the variable.
- Creating a variable with the MCA_BASE_VAR_FLAG_SETTABLE enables the use of
mca_base_var_set_value() to change the value.
- String values are duplicated when the variable is registered. It is up to
the caller to free the original value if necessary. The new value will be
freed by the mca_base_var system and must not be freed by the user.
- Variables with constant scope may not be settable.
- Variable groups (and all associated variables) are deregistered when the
component is closed or the component repository item is freed. This
prevents a segmentation fault from accessing a variable after its component
is unloaded.
- After some discussion we decided we should remove the automatic registration
of component priority variables. Few component actually made use of this
feature.
- The enumerator interface was updated to be general enough to handle
future uses of the interface.
- The code to generate ompi_info output has been moved into the MCA variable
system. See mca_base_var_dump().

This commit also modifies the rmaps framework. The following variables were
moved from ppr and lama: rmaps_base_pernode, rmaps_base_n_pernode,
rmaps_base_n_persocket. Both lama and ppr create synonyms for these variables.

actually care if opal_pointer_array is limited to handle_max already passes
that in as the max_size during init, so don't need it there. The arch
constant was a bit more difficult, so pass that in during MPI init and
leave empty otherwise.
This is to help with the effort to allow building ompi against an external
opal or orte.

either direct link to these basic predefined types, or a combination of them.
Anyway, the first items in the datatype list belong to OPAL, the second round
are MPI datatypes created by composing basic OPAL datatypes, and the last
batch are mapped datatype (direct correspondance between an OMPI datatype and
an OPAL one such as int -> int32_t).
Modify the op to fit this new scheme.

As memmove is slower than memcpy, I added the required logic to only use it when
really necessary.
No modification from developers point of view, you should always call
opal_datatype_copy_content_same_ddt.

This merges the branch containing the revamped build system based around converting autogen from a bash script to a Perl program. Jeff has provided emails explaining the features contained in the change.
Please note that configure requirements on components HAVE CHANGED. For example. a configure.params file is no longer required in each component directory. See Jeff's emails for an explanation.

- Fix a buglet in commit r23689, where the attribute-for-function ptrs
was applied.

This commit was SVN r23674.
This commit does a bunch of things:
* Address all remaining code review items from CMR #2023:
* Defer mmap setup to be lazy; only set it up the first time we
invoke a collective. In this way, we don't penalize apps that
make lots of communicators but don't invoke collectives on them
(per #2027).
* Remove the extra assignments of mca_coll_sm_one (fixing a
convertor count setup that was the real problem).
* Remove another extra/unnecessary assignment.
* Increase libevent polling frequency when using the RML to
bootstrap mmap'ed memory.
* Fix a minor procs-related memory leak in btl_sm.
* Commit a datatype fix that George and I discovered along the way to
fixing the coll sm.
* Improve error messages when mmap fails, potentially trying to
de-alloc any allocated memory when that happens.
* Fix a previously-unnoticed confusion between extent and true_extent
in coll sm reduce.

don't set the ref count to 1, it has been already set by the call to OBJ_NEW
when the type was allocated. This fixes ticket #2014.
This commit was SVN r21976.
As noted in http://www.open-mpi.org/community/lists/devel/2009/08/6741.php,
we do not correctly free a dupped predefined datatype.
The fix is a bit more involving. See ticket for details.
Tested with ibm tests and mpi_test_suite (though there's two "old" failures
zero5.c and zero6.c)

support for _Complex is disabled until we figure out the correct
black magic. So instead of using this nice C99 feature, we use the
a strcture with a double type, the same approach that worked pretty
well for the last couple of years.
Switching from one mode to the other is done using the
OPAL_USE_[FLOAT|DOUBLE|LONG_DOUBLE]__COMPLEX macros defined in
opal_datatype_internal.h at line 442.
This commit was SVN r21800.
Complex should either be a struct of float on the ompi-layer
or as C99 float _complex in opal.

OMPI
and a language agnostic part in OPAL. The convertor is completely
moved into OPAL. This offers several benefits as described in RFC
http://www.open-mpi.org/community/lists/devel/2009/07/6387.php
namely:
- Fewer basic types (int* and float* types, boolean and wchar
- Fixing naming scheme to ompi-nomenclature.
- Usability outside of the ompi-layer.
- Due to the fixed nature of simple opal types, their information is
completely
known at compile time and therefore constified
- With fewer datatypes (22), the actual sizes of bit-field types may be
reduced
from 64 to 32 bits, allowing reorganizing the opal_datatype
structure, eliminating holes and keeping data required in convertor
(upon send/recv) in one cacheline...
This has implications to the convertor-datastructure and other parts
of the code.
- Several performance tests have been run, the netpipe latency does not
change with
this patch on Linux/x86-64 on the smoky cluster.
- Extensive tests have been done to verify correctness (no new
regressions) using:
1. mpi_test_suite on linux/x86-64 using clean ompi-trunk and
ompi-ddt:
a. running both trunk and ompi-ddt resulted in no differences
(except for MPI_SHORT_INT and MPI_TYPE_MIX_LB_UB do now run
correctly).
b. with --enable-memchecker and running under valgrind (one buglet
when run with static found in test-suite, commited)
2. ibm testsuite on linux/x86-64 using clean ompi-trunk and ompi-ddt:
all passed (except for the dynamic/ tests failed!! as trunk/MTT)
3. compilation and usage of HDF5 tests on Jaguar using PGI and
PathScale compilers.
4. compilation and usage on Scicortex.
- Please note, that for the heterogeneous case, (-m32 compiled
binaries/ompi), neither
ompi-trunk, nor ompi-ddt branch would successfully launch.
