2c082b6c7c btl-portals4: fix a flow control configure bug

b569633ddf btl-portals4: don't free module resources when proc count goes to zero
This commit fixes a segfault in btl-portals4 add_procs().  The segfault
occurs if add_procs() is called after a del_procs() call that reduces
the proc count to zero which would cause PT and NI resources to be
freed.  This commit resolves the segfault by using a common
initiailization boolean and only freeing module resources in
finalize().

1282e98a01 opal/asm: rename existing arithmetic atomic functions
This commit renames the arithmetic atomic operations in opal to
indicate that they return the new value not the old value. This naming
differentiates these routines from new functions that return the old
value.

e1d079544b mca: Dynamic components link against project lib
* Resolves #3705
 * Components should link against the project level library to better
   support `dlopen` with `RTLD_LOCAL`.
 * Extend the `mca_FRAMEWORK_COMPONENT_la_LIBADD` in the `Makefile.am`
   with the appropriate project level library:

7b97963669 btl-portals4: remove unnecessary PtlMDBind result check
When PtlMDBind was removed, the result check was left in which
causes intermittent failures depending on the junk value found in
the 'ret' variable.  The commit removes the result check.

2b7e983989 btl-portals4: set endpoint rank even if endpoint already exists
If btl-portals4 is configured to use logical mapping of ranks to
physical nodes, then the endpoint must have the rank field set.
This commit fixes a bug that caused the endpoint to have the
nid/pid instead of the rank if the endpoint already exists.

3e63a3458c portals4: add support for dynamic add_procs() to all Portals4 components
In the default mode of operation, the Portals4 components support
dynamic add_procs().

The Portals4 components have two alternate modes (flow control and
logical-to-physical) that require knowledge of all procs at startup.
In these modes, mtl-portals4 sets the MCA_MTL_BASE_FLAG_REQUIRE_WORLD
flag and btl-portals4 sets the MCA_BTL_FLAGS_SINGLE_ADD_PROCS flag
to tell the PML that we need all the procs in one add_procs() call.

3afac9e37d btl-portals4: fix PMIx integration problem
After PMIx integration, the thrid parameter to OPAL_MODEX_RECV() is
opal_process_name_t instead of opal_proc_t.  This commit replaces
proc with &proc->proc_name.

Bring the s2 component online

Little cleanup - let the various PMIx modules set the process name during init, and then just raise it up to the ORTE level. Required as the different PMI environments all pass the jobid in different ways.

Bring the OMPI pubsub/pmi component online

Get comm_spawn working again

Ensure we always provide a cpuset, even if it is NULL

pmix/cray: adjust cray pmix component for pmix

Make changes so cray pmix can work within the integrated
ompi/pmix framework.

Bring singletons back online. Implement the comm_spawn operation using pmix - not tested yet

Cleanup comm_spawn - procs now starting, error in connect_accept

9df163f116 portals4: use a single Memory Descriptor to cover all of memory
In days past, some implementations of Portals4 could not cover all
of memory with a single Memory Descriptor so multiple large
overlapping Memory Descriptors were created.  Because none of the
current implementations have this limitation (and no future
implementations should either), this commit removes the overlapping
Memory Descriptors code.

5a0581a761 btl-portals4: delay interface initialization until add_procs()
The Portals4 spec requires that PtlSetMap() be called before any
Portals4 call other than PtlNIInit(), PtlGetMap() and
PtlGetPhysId().  To satisfy this requirement, this commit delays
interface initialization until the end add_procs() at which time
PtlSetMap() has been called.

b1cef6c3ea btl-portals4: remove unused code path
The Portals4 BTL is registered with the PML as an RDMA BTL, so
prepare_src() is only used in limited cases.  This commit removes
the code path from prepare_src() for unbuffered contiguous buffers
with no PML reserve.  This is now handled in register_mem().

bca2522d8b btl-portals4: fix send failure for messages larger than eager_size
In the large message case, the sender issues a PtlMEAppend() in
order to generate events when the receiver issues a PtlGet().  This
commit moves the PtlMEAppend() from mca_btl_portals4_prepare_src()
to mca_btl_portals4_register_mem() which is the way it's done in
BTL 3.0.

5f1254d710 Update code base to use the new opal_free_list_t
Use of the old ompi_free_list_t and ompi_free_list_item_t is
deprecated. These classes will be removed in a future commit.

This commit updates the entire code base to use opal_free_list_t and
opal_free_list_item_t.

Notes:

OMPI_FREE_LIST_*_MT -> opal_free_list_* (uses opal_using_threads ())

bf89131f9e add owner files to opa/ompi/orte mca directories
This commit adds an owner file in each of the component directories
for each framework.  This allows for a simple script to parse
the contents of the files and generate, among other things, tables
to be used on the project's wiki page.  Currently there are two
"fields" in the file, an owner and a status.  A tool to parse
the files and generate tables for the wiki page will be added
in a subsequent commit.

c0c680bccb Portals4 BTL: Do not disqualify if a peer does not put Portals4 BTL modex info
If OPAL_MODEX_RECV() returns OPAL_ERR_NOT_FOUND, the peer didn't
send any Portals4 BTL info.  This is not a fatal error.  Instead of
disqualifying the Portals4 BTL just ignore that peer.

@jsquyres reported this in #194.

ec33374339 btl: remove des_remote/des_remote_count from the mca_btl_base_descriptor_t
structure

This structure member was originally used to specify the remote segment
for an RDMA operation. Since the new btl interface no longer uses
desriptors for RDMA this member no longer has a purpose. In addition
to removing these members the local segment information has been
renamed to des_segments/des_segment_count.

aec5cd08bd Per the PMIx RFC:
WHAT:    Merge the PMIx branch into the devel repo, creating a new
               OPAL “lmix” framework to abstract PMI support for all RTEs.
               Replace the ORTE daemon-level collectives with a new PMIx
               server and update the ORTE grpcomm framework to support
               server-to-server collectives

WHY:      We’ve had problems dealing with variations in PMI implementations,
               and need to extend the existing PMI definitions to meet exascale
               requirements.

Several community members have been working on a refactoring of the current PMI support within OMPI. Although the APIs are common, Slurm and Cray implement a different range of capabilities, and package them differently. For example, Cray provides an integrated PMI-1/2 library, while Slurm separates the two and requires the user to specify the one to be used at runtime. In addition, several bugs in the Slurm implementations have caused problems requiring extra coding.

All this has led to a slew of #if’s in the PMI code and bugs when the corner-case logic for one implementation accidentally traps the other. Extending this support to other implementations would have increased this complexity to an unacceptable level.

Accordingly, we have:

* created a new OPAL “pmix” framework to abstract the PMI support, with separate components for Cray, Slurm PMI-1, and Slurm PMI-2 implementations.

* Replaced the current ORTE grpcomm daemon-based collective operation with an integrated PMIx server, and updated the grpcomm APIs to provide more flexible, multi-algorithm support for collective operations. At this time, only the xcast and allgather operations are supported.

* Replaced the current global collective id with a signature based on the names of the participating procs. The allows an unlimited number of collectives to be executed by any group of processes, subject to the requirement that only one collective can be active at a time for a unique combination of procs. Note that a proc can be involved in any number of simultaneous collectives - it is the specific combination of procs that is subject to the constraint

* removed the prior OMPI/OPAL modex code

* added new macros for executing modex send/recv to simplify use of the new APIs. The send macros allow the caller to specify whether or not the BTL supports async modex operations - if so, then the non-blocking “fence” operation is used, if the active PMIx component supports it. Otherwise, the default is a full blocking modex exchange as we currently perform.

* retained the current flag that directs us to use a blocking fence operation, but only to retrieve data upon demand

WHAT:    Open our low-level communication infrastructure by moving all necessary components (btl/rcache/allocator/mpool) down in OPAL

All the components required for inter-process communications are currently deeply integrated in the OMPI layer. Several groups/institutions have express interest in having a more generic communication infrastructure, without all the OMPI layer dependencies.  This communication layer should be made available at a different software level, available to all layers in the Open MPI software stack. As an example, our ORTE layer could replace the current OOB and instead use the BTL directly, gaining access to more reactive network interfaces than TCP.  Similarly, external software libraries could take advantage of our highly optimized AM (active message) communication layer for their own purpose.  UTK with support from Sandia, developped a version of Open MPI where the entire communication infrastucture has been moved down to OPAL (btl/rcache/allocator/mpool). Most of the moved components have been updated to match the new schema, with few exceptions (mainly BTLs where I have no way of compiling/testing them). Thus, the completion of this RFC is tied to being able to completing this move for all BTLs. For this we need help from the rest of the Open MPI community, especially those supporting some of the BTLs.  A non-exhaustive list of BTLs that qualify here is: mx, portals4, scif, udapl, ugni, usnic.
