* src/poptalloca.h: New file with definitions for alloca. Note: alloca
is defined as malloc on systems which fail to support alloca. Don't
include this file if you frequently use alloca.
* src/findme.c, src/popt*.c: include poptalloca.h
* src/Makefile.in: added poptalloca.h
* src/menu.c (create_menu): set minimum menu width to 20 characters as
it used to be (this was part of davids patches but I haven't
applied it, yet).
`--with-tm-x-support'
This option enables minimal X Window support in the text edition. It
enables MC to query the status of the modifiers CONTROL and SHIFT
when invoked in a terminal emulation under X11. That's necessary
to recognice key combinations like C-HOME or S-Cursor key.

* configure.in: New option --with-tm-x-support, use MCCFLAGS and
MCLIBS for build flags which are specific to the text edition.
* INSTALL: Added documentation for --with-tm-x-support
* src/Makefile.in: use MCCFLAGS and MCLIBS
Wed Apr 21 20:19:45 1999 Norbert Warmuth <nwarmuth@privat.circular.de>
* src/key.c (get_modifier): Query the state of the modifier keys when
running inside a terminal emulation under X11.
* src/key.c (init_textmode_x11_support, done_textmode_x11_support): new
functions, only used in the text edition. Connect to and disconnect
from the X Server when DISPLAY is set.
* src/key.h: added prototypes for the new functions
* src/main.c (main): call (init|done)_textmode_x11_support
* Make.common.in: There were conflicting definitions of mclibdir
(one for installation, one for source). Now the source one is
called mcsrclibdir.
* doc/Makefile.in: Use mcsrclibdir where appropriate.

tree updates from the treestore.
This speeds up a lot the display, as the GtkCTree seems to be
particularly bad at handling changes to the tree and keeping
the display in sync.
Makefile fixes to support SHELL= during compilation.
Miguel.
- GNOME edition now compiles without any trace of the text mode
dependencies.
- We no longer link with libraries we do not use (crypt, gpm), this
fixes the recent bug reports.
- More tree updates, enhancements.
Miguel.
Ok, finally splitted the GUI code that dealt with the file operations into
a separate file. It is now possible to write a native Gtk version of this.
Until the Gtk-native version is done, the code in mc/gnome/ is linking with
filegui.c.

* src/find.c: Changed hotkey of the continue-button (both Chdir and
Continue used `C').
* po/*.po: remade because one msgstr in find.c changed
* src/Makefile.in: search config.status in builddir and not in rootdir,
i.e. make it compile for builddir != srcdir
* vfs/vfs.h (struct vfs): renamed errno to verrno because glibc2
defines errno as macro (#define errno (*__errno_location ()))
* vfs/Makefile.in: search config.status in builddir and not in srcdir/..,
i.e. make it compile for builddir != srcdir
The VFS code can now be used by other applications (if you compile the
libvfs.a target and link against this).
Syntax has changes internally from the url-like syntax to a new syntax
that does not have ambiguities. A default conversor for the new syntax
will be provided in the future, also dealing with the user ~/.mc/ext files
is currently in a non-optimal state.
Keep an eye on this mailing list.

fix a bug in the panel-widget selection.
i18n changes from Andrej Borsenkow.
Menus renamed, better texts -- thanks Havoc.

* main.c, screen.c, dirhist.c, dirhist.h, main.h, widget.c,
main.h and others?: Directory history added. The previous
directory history code was removed. The directory history now
loads and saves using the same routines as the input widget. The
keys meta-y, and meta-u are used to go backward and forward
through the history. The buttons to the right and left of the
current directory display on the panel can be used as well. The
v button brings up a history, but no key is assigned to this.
Discussion as to correct color and shape of these buttons is
open. show_hist() in widget.c is made generic to be called for
any widget. Help pages still needed to be added for the
directory history.
* doc/mc.1.in, mc.hlp: updated (these files haven't been updated
at the last change to mc.sgml)
* doc/mc.sgml: spelling error corrected
* Makefile.in: renamed all references of mc.1 to mc.1.in
* find.c (locate_egrep): Don't use an absolute path if egrep isn't
found at the usual places. Then execvp will search the directories
passed in the environment PATH variable (a little bit slower but
better than a defunct find content).
* tree.c: removed the include file I mistakenly added with my
last patch.
